I promise to treat the foot, the whole foot and nothing but the foot, so help me God

Podiatry.
The study of all things foot and ankle.
Often referred to as "the best kept secret in medicine". To be honest, I hate that phrase. Partially because it's true- although in 2024, it really shouldn't be with the growing need of this profession. At this point, podiatry should be a well discussed profession in undergraduate programs. Students should be educated earlier in their pre-med careers that this profession is an option for them to pursue. Despite the fact this profession originated centuries ago, podiatry still remains a poorly advertised profession in undergraduate school. Not sure why that is. With the global rise in diabetes and related pedal complications, our profession will continue to be in the highest of demands. Our scope is limited but our impact is great. We are specialists. We are surgeons. We are limb savers. - Katerina Grigoropoulos, DPM, AACFAS |
